The Cometic C4231-060 is a five-layer multi-layer steel (MLS) head gasket engineered for high-performance sealing on Honda B-series engines. Constructed from multiple embossed stainless steel layers with a durable elastomer coating, this gasket delivers exceptional resistance to combustion pressure, heat cycling, and blowout compared to traditional composite or single-layer designs. MLS gaskets maintain even clamping force across the head and block interface, helping prevent leaks and hold compression under demanding street and racing conditions.
With an 81mm bore diameter and a compressed thickness of 0.060 inch, this gasket adds deck clearance to lower static compression ratio — a common requirement in forced induction builds — and can also be used to gain piston-to-valve clearance on aggressive cam and high-lift setups. The five-layer construction provides added stability at this thickness while maintaining repeatable sealing when paired with proper surface finishes and clamping hardware such as ARP head studs or upgraded head bolts.
